Effects of Foliar Application of NAA on Shoot Growth , Fruit Quality , and Return Blooming in Fuji Apple Trees

Abstract
The effects of NAA on shoot growth, fruit quality, and return blooming in following season of ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple trees on M.26/seedling and M.9 were evaluated for one year in high density orchard system. NAA, at a concentration of 10, 20, and 30 §·¡¤L^(-1) were sprayed from 70 days after full bloom with 1 week interval for two times application on ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.26/seedling and NAA at a concentration of 10, 20, 30, and 40 §·¡¤L^(-1) were sprayed from 60 days after full bloom with 1 week interval for three times application and from 70 days after full bloom with 1 week interval for 2 times application on ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.9 apple trees. Shoot growth and regrowth rate were significantly decreased by two times foliar application of NAA on ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.26/seedling and two or three times foliar application of NAA on ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.9 apple tree. Fruit weights were increased by two or three times foliar application of NAA in ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple on both rootstocks. Fruit firmness and soluble solids contents were higher than control in two times application of NAA on ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.26/seedling, but there were no differences between NAA treatments and control in ¢¥Fuji¢¥/M.9 apple. The number of return blooming clusters was increased by foliar applications of NAA in ¢¥Fuji¢¥ apple tree on both rootstocks. With these results, we can estimate that 2 or 3 times foliar application of NAA at a concentration of 10 to 40 §·¡¤L^(-1) can control the canopy size in high density orchard system.
